Carriers up the ante on servicesViews: 577

It used to be that carriers only provided monthly billing. "Problem is leaving here fine" was a common response to circuit issues, and the customer or his vendors had to prove a circuit problem to the telco.

How times have changed! I was checking out one of the smaller players (Masergy) and ran across this. (http://www.masergy.com/solutions_NetworkAnalyst.htm)
_____

View your network traffic by application, protocol, port, IP address and QoS service plane for inbound and/or outbound traffic flows. Customizing the time period for your view is equally flexible, so your team can call up traffic activity by month, week, day, hour, minute – or somewhere in between.

...you won't sacrifice bandwidth to monitor your network. Using "packet mirroring" capabilities, Network Analyst stores copies of packet header information on redundant servers owned and maintained by MASERGY. The header information is immediately available to query and display....with no effect on network service or the traffic being monitored.
_____

Without a doubt, this level of granularity will allow a savvy IT team to optimize performance and costs. Some of the other benefits include department or application level cost distribution, verification of assumptions made with deployments, and even discovery of user created "work arounds" for poorly implemented ERP. Almost sounds like one of my favorite tools (WAN QC by Emcom http://www.emcom.com/)
has been rolled into the service by Masergy.

So what is your carrier doing for you these days?
